about

Originally written by Matt Campbell some 20 years ago.
We decided to re-record trying a more stripped back approach.

Which gave the song more breathing space.
Giving the "Claw hammer" banjo intro by Peter Somerville room to shine and sets the mood for a country song, for when you are living in the city.

lyrics

I was a kid on five acres
Eastern side of the bay
No trees or fences
Summer Grass into hay

I caught the train to high school
It was the highlight of my day
I was always looking to do wrong
Always trying to slip away

There's too much of me here
To ever leave behind
I like to drive on country road
But I love my city life

Old enough I lived in Richmond
Was always drinkin' drunk
I burned my first house to the ground
I couldn't believe I got my bond back

I like to ride in a taxi
Up that Punt Road hill
Six o'clock in the mornin'
I've always had my fill
